Reclaiming Yourself in the Midst of Parenthood–Dr. Josh + Christi LIVE

January 19, 2017 By Joshua Straub Leave a Comment

We took some questions this week and the conversation led into the importance of taking care of ourselves as parents. This is truly one of the most important topics we talk about as a family. We cannot give from an empty tank. If we’re not filled up, it’s difficult to be truly be present with our spouse or our kids. I think the most significant lesson we learned is that we’re not alone in this!

So many families today feel the burden. “If I focus on myself,” the thought goes, “then I’m not being a good mom (or dad).” Yet, no matter how much time or energy we put into our kids, we still lay in bed at night wondering deeply, in our self-imposed guilt, how badly we messed them up. And the cycle of guilt continues.

But here’s the good news: You’re not alone! And here’s the even better news: You’re most likely doing a much better job than you give yourself credit for. That’s because we only tend to focus on the negative–when our kids are acting out, when we yell, etc. Rarely, do we focus on the positives–the #parentingwins.

These are some of the highlights from last week’s Facebook Live episode. Remember, parenting, like life, is a journey. We’re grateful to be on that journey with you!
